¬ MONEY RAISED FROM THE 2010 SHOW
08.02.2012

The 2010 production of “Snow White” raised a fantastic sum of £14,000 that BACCES were able to give away to charitable organisations...

The two main recipients of our donations were Orchyd and The Stroke association/Merlin Court. We donated £4,250 to Merlin Court. In memory of BACCES’S first treasurer, Peter Hyslop, we donated the money to Merlin Court where Peter lived after suffering a stroke. Merlin court provides nursing care, as well as social and personal care to their residents.. Merlin court encourages residents to be actively involved in planning activities and group pastimes that are both physically and mentally stimulating.

We also donated £4,250 to Orchyd Organisation of Ruislip Churches Holiday for the Young Disabled ORCHYD is a volunteer based charity than runs an annual holiday for children with physical disabilities. We aim to provide respite for the child and their families and give them a memorable holiday they may not otherwise get to have. It is both respite for the children, doing activities to stimulate them and give them new experiences, and a chance for families to have some respite as well. This is important as there are often other children in the family who get the chance to spend quality time with their parents.

We take 20 children, usually 10 boys and 10 girls, aged between 8 and 12 with various disabilities, levels of ability and understanding. They stay with us at a local church hall for 10 days. We care for every aspect of their day to day life and take them out on some fantastic trips. Some examples of the trips we do include; camping in the local woods (an activity many would not have ever had before), swimming, cinema, bowling, specialised activity centres, a zoo or farm, shopping with a ride on a train and many more. We are a volunteer based organisation and have a wide variety of people involved. Our volunteers are all over the age of 16 and upwards. We have many different roles for people to play on the holiday including; escorting the children on trips, housekeeping and security at the church hall, minibus driving and catering for the children and helpers. It is a great chance for people to get involved and we have a fabulous team of people who really get on and work with each other well.

In addition to our two main charities we were also able to help several other smaller organisations. These donations are vital to help to keep these charities going.

£500 Thames Valley Hospice.
£500 the British Heart Foundation
£500. Guide dogs for the Blind
£500 Paul’s cancer support centre
£500 Bucks and Chiltern search dogs
£500 McMillan
£400 Lynwood nursing home

We strive to enhance the quality of life for each of our patients by re-shaping abilities and teaching new skills. We rebuild hope, confidence, self-respect and a desire to achieve one's highest level of independence. Each person is unique. At Lynwood Nursing Home, our goal is to meet the needs of the individual. We treat everyone with dignity, respect and compassion, while providing the best care possible. Other donations were also made to Smile train in Northampton.

¬ BACCES PASSES THE £1M MARK FOR CHARITY!
07.02.2012

After 40 years, the British Airways Cabin Crew Entertainment Society has smashed the £1 million mark for charity!

What started as a small review at the York House, Twickenham has grown year on year to become the sell-out, award winning pantomimes we produce today. In addition to the seven regular performances we also perform 2 mid-week matinees to which all tickets are donated free to local elderly residents and disadvantaged children.

During its history the society has performed at the Royal Albert Hall and the London Palladium, been invited to Buckingham Palace, and has pulled in support from professionals including the London Symphony Orchestra as well as top theatre directors and stage managers. Famous audience members include David Jacobs CBE, (a patron for many years); Hughie Green; Sir Cliff Richard; Nicky Clarke OBE, and Jeremy Vine. Jeremy was so impressed with last year’s production of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs he talked about it on his Radio 2 show the next day! Over 600 cabin crew have been involved over the past 40 years both performing and helping backstage and we estimate that between us we have accumulated 70 million air miles. Cast and crew members have included a Belgian Olympic bronze medal winning gymnast; a championship skater; a former child star; skaters from ‘Holiday on Ice’; a tax man (who keeps that very quiet); numerous magicians as well as a whole host of ex-professional dancers, actors and singers.

Bill Francis, head of inflight services at British Airways, said “The cabin crew involved spend much of their time abroad and only have a handful of final rehearsals as a complete cast. Bringing the whole show together in such a professional way is fantastic for both the audience and the charities they support. British Airways is extremely proud”.

Finally our heartfelt thanks go out to you – our audience, whose continued support has enabled us to help so many good causes over the past 40 years and will no doubt see us safely over our one million pound target.

Here’s to the next 40 years and the next million!

The Royal Society of Musicins
www.royalsocietyofmusicians.co.uk

Founded in 1738 as The Fund for Decay’d Musicians, The Royal Society of Musicians is Britains longest established musical charity. Its charitable work has unceasingly continued since its foundation. Over many years money has been received from benefit concerts and gifts. The aims of the Founding Members, whose numbers included Handel, remain unchanged today: To provide assistance to those working in the music profession and their dependants when in need, because of accident, illness or old age. The Society now reaches professional musicians and their dependants and those active within the world of music, throughout Great Britain and northern Ireland.

The Society is a charity for musicians, run by musicians. BACCES would like to express its gratitude to the many musicians who have contributed to the success of our productions over the years.
